Personal and Professional ImprovementWhen was the last time you set a goal? Was it work related? It might have been a menial task that was assigned to you. When a goal is set to improve oneself it might be looked at a little differently than a work assignment.
Setting a goal is a great way to work on self improvement. Self improvement is important not only in your personal life but from a business stand point as well. When a goal is set and a person takes steps and actions to reach that goal, they become better in that area.
Take a marathon runner. They don't wake up one day and decide to run 26 miles. They start with a smaller goal. Perhaps they run for 20 minutes 4 times a week, and then gradually build up from there. After several months of increasing the amount the run, only then are they ready to run a marathon. Training for a marathon improves more than just the ability to run. It may make a person more determined and disciplined. This same technique can be applied to a business or personal goal.
There are many areas that you can improve in. For example: communication skills. Communication skills are not only conveying your point effectively. Communication skills include being a good listener. Setting a goal that includes improving your communication skills can benefit more than just one area of your life.
Another area that you may need to improve on is time management. Managers especially need to have excellent time management skills. As a manager, you are not only responsible for managing your time, but you are responsible for the productivity of those on your team. Improving your time management skills may also set an example for your team and they will improve theirs. |
